Supported via the Essex County Council Cultural Development Strategic Fund, Essex Undiscovered brings together a network of venues, promoters and producers from across the county who share the same passion for supporting emerging artists and grassroots music. It is not-for-profit and there is just one simple aim – to help raise the profile of Essex based artists.
As part of the project a music contest is held year each year which is free to enter and open to artists of any age, genre and music types. With over 60 entries, for first time the contest was split into two categories, Solo Act & Band and after 14 heats across Essex it came down to five finalists in each category. Katy Forkings aged just 16 from Chelmsford was crowned ‘Best Solo Act’ 2017 whose distinct vocal style stood out. FyreSky from Southend then clinched ‘Best Band’ 2017 at the final at the Colchester Arts Centre - a good old fashioned four -piece rock combo with great songs and a superb performance that helped them win a closely fought bands final.
Each win recording time, a single release via download and a music video plus FyreSky will have the honour of opening up the Village Green Festival in Southend courtesy of Metal
