Come and join us for our first Essex Global Music and Dance Weekend– a great opportunity to take part in a fantastic weekend creating music and dance with artists from across the globe – Ghana, Jamaica, Zanzibar, Colombia and UK. Learn new techniques, explore new genres – develop new skills and take part in collaborations.
An exciting, immersive weekend of workshops and master classes will be taking place at Colchester Institute and Colchester Arts Centre (address and contact below). This is a chance to widen your musical horizons and learn from the best…… Abass Dodoo, Mim Suleiman, Mauricio Velasierra, Ripton Lindsay and Heidi Heidleberg will be there to guide, encourage and support you.
Pick up a drum and meet master drummer/percussionist Abass Dodoo (Ghana). His charismatic teaching style and generous presence make his sessions productive, fast and furious. After this weekend your drumming will never be the same! (drums provided)
Explore vocal techniques, rhythm and song writing with Mim Suleiman (Zanzibar) Singing has never been so much fun and Mim’s infectious enthusiasm will stretch your vocal chords and ignite your creative talents.
Step into the groove and make the moves with Jamaican dance maestro Ripton Lindsay, world- class dancer, choreographer, DJ and poet. His Jamaican roots remain at the heart of his urban style, encompassing hip-hop, street and cool contemporary.
Working with a rich source of undiscovered Colombian rhythms Mauricio Velasierra (Colombia) will take you on an adventure in finding your own voice to develop exciting new playing and composition skills.
Guitarist, singer and experimental music maker Heidi Heidleberg (UK) bends all the rules to ensure young people have access to music. A gifted teacher and performer she welcomes everyone to her sessions to find their ‘element’.
£50 for the weekend (Friday - Sunday) Includes accommodation, meals, admission to Colchester Arts Centre performance Saturday evening with ‘Cauldron’ and DJ Mr Benn & MC Souls Liberation and final showcase on Sunday afternoon (friends and family welcome)
