In this morning workshop, you will learn the basics of cutting lino and explore how to use the reduction technique to print a two-colour design. We begin by getting to grips with the basics of lino printing by experimenting with mark making and simple reduction prints and then use these techniques to develop a two-colour design on an A5 softcut lino plate. Soft cut lino is very easy to carve your design and will allow you to make an expressive print. We will burnish the plates using our relief printing press, brayers and other burnishing tools, most of which are easy to purchase and continue using at home. You will leave with… five two-colour prints of your reduction design and your lino plate. If you select ‘with lino toolkit’ you will also take home your own five blade, wooden handled lino cutting tool kit. You can use this to cut lino plates to continue printing with at home. Who is this workshop for? Beginners to printmaking and lino cutting, or those with a little knowledge who would like to increase their knowledge. We cover all the basics and so no prior experience in lino is necessary. However, more advanced students will be able to cut a finer or more complicated design. Materials and Equipment All printmaking, tools, material and equipment is provided. Please bring along a sketchbook and any relevant reference material that you would like to work from. There will be some ideas to inspire you on the day, or have a look at our Pinterest boards for more inspiration. Important Details Group size is limited to 6 people, to give you plenty of space to work in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout the session. Please arrive at 09:30 for a cup of tea or coffee. The workshop will finish at approximately 13:00, but please note that times may vary depending on the speed at which you work. The simpler your design, the quicker you will finish. Our workshops take place in the beautiful Barley Barn on Slamseys Farm.
