Event Information

Naze Tower

Sep 9, 2017 - Oct 31, 2017

This exhibition is the result of a year long discovery and documentation of the flora of the Naze, documenting the plant life of the Naze using the blue print method first used by Anna Atkins a Victorian photographer and botanist.  The cyanotype, a photographic way of printmaking using sunlight and chemistry leaves shadows on the paper. The result Prussian blue prints. The prints are original and can not be repeated.

Anna Atkins, although recently rediscovered has not been fully recognised for her work as an artist / botanist.

This exhibition seeks to honour her and make an object that recognises her work.  The result Anna's Dress,  a Victorian dress printed with Seaweeds  is displayed in the Tower during the exhibition.

From the top of the tower you can enjoy a unique view over the Naze, one of the most stunning nature reserves in Essex. Access to the tower will be free during the Private View and on Sunday the 10th September.
